Night Owl? Check Out These Night Spots

As a Night Owl, there are tons of things to love. Check out how you can explore the night life here, near and a short distance away from JMU’s campus, downtown Harrisonburg, and Charlottesville and Richmond!


The Dog Pound is a walk-up window for quick, late-night, satisfying snacks that you won’t find in any vending machine. It is there for you until 2 a.m. with food like pizza, paninis, nachos, and even cookies and milk. Check out the vegetarian options, too! Use dining, FLEX, dining dollars gold, credit cards or cash. The Dog Pound window is located next to the entrance of Top Dog and opens at 10 p.m.

Taylor Down Under is a student lounge available for a relaxing night chatting with friends, listening to live music or playing a game of pool. Look for the upcoming TDU events posted around campus. Check out the unique tables and chairs decorated by various student organizations. TDU also houses a Java City! So, grab coffee, tea and snacks throughout the night.


Downtown Harrisonburg is the night owl’s home for good music, restaurants, trivia nights, salsa nights and more. Plan your night-out using event calendars found on these websites:

Slip on your dancing shoes on for Salsa Night at the Artful Dodger! Every Thursday starting at 9 p.m., head downtown for all-night dancing until 2 a.m.

Grab a group of your smartest friends and head to Clementine! Almost every Tuesday night is Trivia night, so get there before 9 p.m. to register, and play until 11 p.m. Your group (of no more than 6 members) could win a $50 gift certificate!


Charlottesville’s downtown outdoor mall is about an hour’s drive from JMU with a wide variety of restaurants, stores, public art and outdoor cafes. Check out the places that Harrisonburg doesn’t have like Urban Outfitters, the Virginia Discovery Museum, eclectic boutiques and even an ice rink.
